We live in the Lansing area and have three daughters, the youngest age 19 and a sophomore at MSU. Over the years, I've handled the first and second used-car buying exercise with each daughter. I'm also a long-time business owner, so I'm obviously very busy. For each daughter, we used the same process and approach: determine what they would like in a used vehicle, pair that with what we wanted them to have for practical purposes (four- or all-wheel drive for our winters, good safety/crash-test ratings, non-smoker) and set a budget we could afford when it came time to start looking. For the first two daughters, we never had much luck at Shaheen. This time, however, in June we found 2016 Equinox right in our price range. It was super clean, had just 17,000 miles, and checked all our other boxes. The salesman, Keith Walters, was terrific. About a month after buying the car, the A/C stopped working, followed a day or so later by the windshield wiper fluid system conking out. Unfortunately, the bumper-to-bumper warranty had expired about a month before our purchase. We took the car to Shaheen service, where I obviously expressed my strong disappointment with both issues cropping up so soon after purchase and warranty expiration. While the vehicle was being serviced, they put our daughter into a rental so she could get to work. And when the repairs were done, they stepped up and covered everything. We did not have to pay a penny. I've been a loyal Chevy and GM customer for decades. When it comes time for our next new car, I'll definitely give Shaheen a shot as they've earned it.
